Firefighting Apparatus and Emergency Response
The District operates a fleet of emergency vehicles to ensure a swift response to fires, rescues, and medical emergencies. The two main types of firefighting apparatus are:

• Fire Engines: Responsible for fire suppression, supplying water, and deploying hose lines.
• Fire Trucks (ladder trucks): Assist with forcible entry, search and rescue, ventilation, and aerial access, carrying specialized tools like the "Jaws of Life."

Staffing and Deployment
To ensure rapid responses, the District staffs seven firehouses, each with at least one engine company of three firefighters. The District also operates:

• Two Ladder Trucks: Each staffed with four firefighters, located on the west and east sides of the District.
• One Rescue Squad: Staff with two firefighters, equipped for multi-company incidents and wildland fire management.
• Two Command Vehicles: Staffed by Battalion Chiefs to oversee operations.

Advanced Life Support & Emergency Medical Services
All fire engines, ladder trucks, and rescue squads are equipped with Advanced Life Support (ALS) equipment, with at least one paramedic on each crew. Other firefighters are trained as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs).

Specialized Equipment & Resources
In addition to firefighting and emergency medical response, the District operates:

• An Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Truck: For specialized rescues in complex or hazardous environments.
• Watercraft: For responses in San Francisco Bay and nearby waterways.

These resources allow the District to effectively respond to fires, medical emergencies, rescues, and disasters, helping to keep our community safe every day!
